When an employee turns 22, they become eligible for automatic enrolment. In Paycircle, when they auto-enrol, their first pension contribution pro rates, are based on their date of birth and pay date.
When an employee turns 22 within a period, Paycircle will pro-rata their pension contribution based on the birth date of the employee.
The pro-rata calculation in Paycircle is as follows;
Gross Pay / Working days in the period * Actual working days from the employee's birthday = pension contribution.
Note: If the pension is Relief at Source, you must then also deduct the tax relief manually. The amount of tax relief the employee receives is dependent on the amount of income tax they pay. For most people, it's 20%. This means that for every £100 they contribute to the pension, £20 of that is claimed back as tax relief.
