In this article, we explain how to make an additional payment to an employee after they've left the company.

Note: Refer to HMRC guidance for what you should do when an employee leaves if you're unsure.

You need to process any extra payments after leaving on an 0T W1M1 tax code, or the Scottish or Welsh equivalent. You deduct national insurance (NI), and student and postgraduate loans as normal. If the employee was previously on an NT tax code, you need to use this code to process the payment. To do this, watch the video or follow the steps below.

Process the extra payment

  1. Click Team then click the Leavers tab.

  2. Select the relevant team member then click the cog ⚙️.

  3. Click Payment after leaving then select the relevant pay element.

  4. Enter the relevant amount and, if required, add a payslip label.

  5. Click Save.

View the payment

Now you've added the payment, the team member appears within the current period with the adjustment. If you need to add further payments, click the cog ⚙️ then click Add a change.

If you've made the payment to the wrong person. you can delete the change using the bin icon next to the adjustment. The team member is then no longer in the current period.
